The rapid growth of new technologies in the field of cell and regenerative medicine requires the necessity of creation of innovative scientific-educational complexes.
One of such kind of complexes – scientific-educational complex “Molecular and Cell Medicine” - was organized in Kazan State Medical University. Basic components of this complex including the Stem Cell Bank and scientific laboratories of Kazan State Medical University allow us to teach both students and physicians.
Our experience shows that organizing the Stem Cell Bank directly in the University which has professional staff, University hospitals and laboratories should be the first step in formation of such a complex. The most important point is that University has state accreditation and license for educational activity. So on the first steps of formation of educational complex the Bank becomes the central structure around which new laboratories could be created.
Second step consists of activities in public healthcare service and own scientific investigations. Experience gained, scientific knowledge, financial basis and equipment – all this allow to start the third step – development of educational programs and teaching physicians and students.
Nowadays our complex “Molecular and Cell Medicine”: (1) deals with practical healthcare: profit and non-profit banking of umbilical cord blood; (2) works up methods of genetic modification of stem cells for cell therapy and conducts investigations in search of new cryoprotectors, studies visceral organs regeneration; (3) coordinates clinical trials in Republic of Tatarstan; (4) conducts educational activity.
So combination of educational, research and practical components of work of the complex “Molecular and Cell Medicine” allows to use different sources of financial support and staff for the development of new scientific and educational technologies, which form the basis for the development of practical healthcare in future.

Learning Objectives: The combination of educational, research and practical components in “Molecular and Cell Medicine”

Sub-Theme: The role of continuing education in health care development
