35.08 Tobacco Control Peer Education Training (TOCOPET)

Our project was focused on an problem which threatens the youth not only in Turkey but also in the entire world because of being more common and easier obtained beside other drugs: "Tobacco Dependence". The aim of our project is to inform the participants and raise their awareness on tobacco and its damages with seminars and workshops. The 5th Tobacco Control Peer Education Training (ToCoPET) took place in Ankara in Turkey on 17th-19th May 2008 and 17 medics from 7 different medicine faculties in Turkey were involved to our training. The training lasted 3 days and included instructive seminars from professions, small group discussions, brain storming, practices on improving projects and preparing oral presentations. At the end of training, the participants obtained the skills of performing the "Anti-Tobacco Advocacy" and they created 3 research presentations and 3 project schemas.

Learning Objectives: -To inform the participants on tobacco-dependence and its damages, -To contribute to awareness of the medics participants related with "the issues predispose youth to smoke", -To discuss the size of effect of media, -To discuss the aims and plans of tobacco endustry on youth and define the the precautions might be taken, -To emphasize the role of medics on tobacco control and create solution suggestions.
