86.79 Evaluation of the university students' knowledge about cloning

Learning Objectives: A descriptive study about cloning-both current and under-discussion was planned to find out whether university students have adequate knowledge about. This research was carried out applying a questionnaire in May, 2003 on Þiþli Health College 1st and 2 nd class 100 female students 19-24 years old by simple selection method. 39% of the participants stated that cloning is copying, 46% of them pointed outh that it musn’t be legal and 46% mentioned that religious bans must be applied. 86% of the participants stated that they don’t want to be cloned, 77% of them said that famous state men don’t need to be cloned, 52% of them don’t believe that cloning won’t be a solution for fatal diseases and 38% painted out that in the future there will be problems because of the cloning misuse. 95% of those painted out that DNA is the main factor in genetic copying, 47% said intelligence isn’t transferred via genes. As a result, it was determined that students at Þiþli Health College don’t have sufficient knowledge about cloning and most of them aren’t in favour of cloning and training activities must be planned to cope with the wrong knowledge.
