90.04 Investigation of relation between physical activity and BMI with cardiovascular disease

Introduction: Obesity and sedentary are alarming, because both conditions can increase the risk of health problems, including certain chronic diseases. Also, four of the 10 leading causes of death in the are heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and several forms of cancer. According to WHO reports, more than 50 to 75 million people in the will suffer from heart disease by 2010. Genetic factors such as family history, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, also environmental factors, sedentary and obesity can increase risk of cardiovascular disease significantly.

Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to determine association between physical activity and BMI in cardiovascular patients hospitalized in Madani heart of city,.

Material and method: In this cross- sectional study, 299 patients with cardiovascular disease hospitalized in CCU1, CCU2 sections of heart of were investigated. Data were collected by interview with patients and filling valid questionnaires.

Results: Among 299 patients, 150 were male and 149 were female. 1.4% of them were single, 78.9% were married, and 19.7% were widow or lost their partners.

Also, most patients had BMI>25 (48.2%) and least patients had BMI<20 (9.4%), these differences statistically were significant (p<0.05).

Moreover, 79.3% of patients had no physical activity, 11.7% had irregular physical activity and just 9% of them had regular daily physical activity, these differences statistically were significant (p<0.005).

Discussion: Results of the present research show that overweight and lack of regular physical activity are associated with cardiovascular disease.
