To understand life projects of adolescents who became mothers, before and with maternity, considering their experience to identify topics that may help to educate adolescents on family planning, study and work.
METHODS
We selected an interview from an adolescent who became mother during her training on a program to insertion on work at a non-governamental organization that follows adolescents from low income families in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil.
An open interview was conducted and recorded, after consetment. We used qualitative methodology to interview´s analysis, based on the indiciary system, the grounded theory and the social representation concept.
RESULTS
- Project of life´s description before and after maternity: adolescence interrupted by pregnancy; changing the plan of studyng at university to dedication to family life
- Educational and professional formation: interruption by pregnancy and dificulties to return to study; prejudice at work and she was withdraw from public contact during pregnancy
- Sexual education and sexualy transmissible diseases prevention: lack of dialogue on family; negative reactions about this issue; dificulty on access to information; language not adequate to comunicate to adolescents; use of images that cause avertion and fear; the imaginary belief that pregnancy will not happen
- Social and familiar support: importance of children´s father and grandmother support; help from social and charity organizations
- Actual world and the children future: worry about violence and the traffic and drug abuse dissemination on outskirts
- Orientation to other adolescents: to think about all possible consequences, before having sex without protection
CONCLUSIONS
Factors that difficulty the adolescent´s orientation:
- familiar and social prejudice
- not considering the adolescent´s desires and expectations
Important aspects:
- to make aware about possible consequences of unprotected sexual relations
- to plan the moment to have children
- to approach the different aspects evolved on adolescent´s orientation, not resuming to tecnical information
- language adequate to adolescents
