122.05 Utility of Health Belief Model (HBM) in dietary education for type II diabetic patients

Introduction: Diabetes one of diseases in which he main part of treatment depends on the patient's responsibility and Understanding factors that affect diabetic diet behaviors is important to reduce the complications of diabetes. The Health Belief Model (HBM) was initially developed to understand why people did not participate in disease detection programs, the theoretical utility of the HBM lies in its potential to inform more effective interventions for treatment adherence and improved glycemic control. The Health Belief Model (HBM) was evaluated for nutritional education for patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Iranian diabetic association Method: This research was an interventional study. 88 patients participated in this study. The Patients randomly divided into two groups such as experimental (taught based on Health Belief Model) and control group. Data were collected with by a valid and reliable questionnaire (58questions) and checklist. Results: The Result of this study showed a significant increasing in the mean score of the knowledge and HBM concepts as well as taking nutritional behaviors among patients in the experimental group comparison to control group. Discussion and conclusion: The finding of this study indicated the practicality and efficacy of Health Belief Model on the diabetic diet education.
