Health is not just the absence of illness. It is better defined as a harmonious participation in the resources of the environment, which allows individuals the full play of their functions and aptitudes. Therefore, human health cannot be considered in isolation. It depends highly on the quality of the environment in which people live:for people to be healthy, they need healthy environments. Ecosystem approach to human health places human beings at the centre: the aim is to achieve lasting improvements in human health by maintaining or improving the environment. Its proponents work for both people and the environment. In this point; as a holistic perspective, it is named “ Eco-health approach”. Eco-health approach is anthropocentric- managing the ecosystem revolves around seeking the optimal balance for human health and well-being, rather than simply on environmental prorection. Thus, its objective is not to preserve the environment as it was before human settlements appared. The presence of human beings creates a new dynamic whereby people’s social and economic aspirations in micro and macro environment need to be considered, particularly since people have the power to control, develop, and use their environment in a sustainable way, or to abuse it.
The ecosystem approach to human health is tied to the overall development of ecology during the second half of the century. This approach recognizes that there are inextricable links between humans and their biophysical, social, and economic environments that are reflected in an individual’s health. For those with a holistic vision, humanity with its aspirations and its cultural, social, and economic universe is at the heart of the ecosystem.
This paper evaluates relationship between human health and ecosystem health as literature review. Also it explains effects on human aspirations and needs on ecosystem health.
