Since the last decades, we can observe, both in the national literature, as in an international breakthrough in the study of relations between the way it organizes and develops a particular society and the health situation of the population. The Social Determinants of Health (SDH) as well as proposals for health promotion necessarily refer to the reflection on the social dynamics as it is focused on the transformation of living conditions, which indicates the relevance of reflection on your subject. This study aimed to identify the scientific production on DSS in a public university in São Paulo, Brazil, from 2004 to 2008, and pinpoint areas of interest and trends in this field of study. The methodology involved a literature review of studies in SDH. Data collection was based on consultation with the following databases: BVS (Virtual Library in Health), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). The indices for the study were selected according to the Health Sciences Descriptors. Among the various issues encountered during data collection, the most commonly cited were: social inclusion, security, social justice, transport, quality of life, models of health care, education, leisure, work environment, equity, income distribution, sustainable resources, ecosystem health, stress and sanitation. These were classified according to model of Dahlgren and Whitehead. The analysis of scientific literature on DSS map and have allowed a comprehensive overview of scientific and thematic studies have focused on this issue so important to the area of health promotion. Common themes are discussed in the scientific production inequality regarding access to social services of health, work environment, behavior and lifestyle, water and sewer and housing. And the issues were worked out in less income and social networks.
