India is the birth place of various alternate systems of medicines. In spite of that, it also the home for many deadly diseases. The knowledge and awareness on drug safety and rational use of drugs among the general public in India is in an awkward stage. The literature suggests that many people in the country do recognize medications based on colour and shape. Their knowledge on drug safety, when it comes to allopathic therapies, is little. This causes a number of major patient centred problems including therapy non-compliance, drug misuse, treatment failures, and over dosages etc. A noble attempt has been made to educate the general public on the proper use of medications by creating a webpage and promoting it. We at EduPharm, an India based non-governmental organization, through our novel, 'Educate India Campaign', highlights the importance of drug safety among the public. With the webpage having the key details on the importance of rational use of drugs and proper drug utilization, it also has the information on adverse drug reactions and their reporting. Apart from this online activity, the team has started physical campaigning as well. This including promoting drug safety aspects through pamphlets and banners. By this initiative, we strongly believe that the awareness on drug safety will significantly be raised.

Learning Objectives: The consumers in the western countries are far better when compared to their counterparts in the developing world on the importance of reporting of adverse drug reactions. This work is aimed to create awareness on pharmacovigilance and drug safety among the general public in India
