141.13 Health content analysis of organ donation and transplantation news in Turkish print media

Media affects the individuals’ behaviors especially by means of news and advertisement. In this study, the print media’s handling form of the organ donation and transplantation news, emphasizes and items in the news, whether the educative view’s are included or not were studied.
The type of the study was health content analysis. The universe of the study is composed of the printed Turkish media. The sample of the study was the printed Turkish media for one year period. 2449 news on 230 newspapers and magazines about organ donation and transplantation were analyzed. Totally nine format variables and nine content variables were examined.
81.1% of the news published in newspapers took place in main part. The news were commonly took part in the first papers of a newspaper. The news given from the headline was in second rank with 13.5%. The mostly seen news was about the donation from a family member (13.7%) and transplantation news and the opinion, speech and informative notes. The percentage of the patient waiting for organ donation news was 10.3%. The percentage of the successful transplantation news was 8%. The dead news from organ shortage was very low (5%). The percentage of the organ donation news was 12%. 62% of the message of the news title was informative, 57% of the word in news had a positive effect and 55% of the news included informative words. 24% of the photos belonged to transplanted person 22% belonged to donor and 24% institutional, 9% belonged to the patient and his/her family. The 61% of the donor was male and 61% was adult. Children were constituted the 11% of the donors. The transplanted individuals were constituted from 59% male and 47% adults.
Organ donation can be increased by awakening and increasing sensitivity.
