The requirements for a career in international public health cover a broad range of competencies: analytical, interdisciplinary, social, operative, intercultural, and so on (Razum et al. 2006). This broad scope underscores the need for collaboration between training institutions.
This paper describes a partnership involving five institutions in four countries representing three continents that was evolved to leverage distributed expertise and opportunities for improving the teaching of international public health generally (phase I) and, from 2009, the teaching of inequalities in health specifically.
Against the backdrop of a profile of the partners, the paper describes activities, structures and plans associated with the partnership, and concludes with an evaluation.

The partnership is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
