Occupational Health of professionals nursing: a preventive approach

ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To review the literature evaluating the occupational health of professionals nursing working in primary care and the risks that they are likely on their enviroment working. REFERENCIAL THEORY: With the excitement of the day-to-day that professionals nursing living in their enviroment working, these just going through situations that affect their mental, physical or emotional health, leading to a neglect of care of themselves and encouraging the development of occupational diseases.METHODS: Were reviewed articles available in SCIELO and BIREME relating to the subject published in the period from 1997 to 2007, according to the standards of ABNT.ANALYSIS OF RESULTS: The routine of Nurses is quite overloaded, this is caused by a big responsibility of the team and factors such as long day of work, pressure fromleadership, anxiety, negative atmosphere at work contributing to the development of depression and stress;and Exhibition to chemical and biological agents increasing the risk of infection. Because of this exposure and often precarious working conditions, the list of injuries to workers health nursing has been extensive. CONCLUSION: It is vital that as professional nursing that prevent disease and promote health, have a good quality of life and health status to develop their work with quality, taking care of themselves to take care of the other.For this to occur it should be investing in: adequated equipments, appropriate structures of the working
environment, the use of personal protection equipment,
continuing education and strategies for physical improvment
as : relaxation, stretching, breathing exercises, changes in work organization and style of life.
