In this study, the aim is to investigate applications of complaint to Istanbul Chamber of Medicine(ICM) about ophthalmologists between 1987 and 2008.
The study was evaluated according to application reasons which are determined by complaints about ophthalmologists direct to ICM or indirect(record from media). It is a descriptive study.
Totally, 407 files which belonged to 167 physicians were investigated; 33.7% of them were male. The highest number about the files which belonged to just one person was 35.
There was no need to have worked on 35.9% of the files; but 51.1% of the physicians were faulty and punished. The highest level of fine was the one from high honor committee. ‘Advertisements’ with the 63.9%, had the highest level of having been punished among 208 files. Duration for concluding the files mean value was 12.5±5.7. Numbers of files have increased into years.
Consequently
1.       It was approved of having been punished as half of the application turned out to be right.
2.       Among the punishment, ‘paying fine’ was the first place. 4 people were prohibited.
3.       Duration for concluding the files was around a year at average.
4.       Applications to IPC about ophthalmologists have increased for the last 20 years.

The specialist physicians’ education has long and hard education period and then by completing the specializing process around 4 years. But the importance should be given to social, medical and clinics ethic, health law during both of specializing and education periods after graduation. Profession chambers are so important for controlling and giving education after graduation; concluding the applications on time and properly; sharing the results of tendency for taking care from private hospital.
