139.05 Examination of knowledge and experience of Ege University students towards family planning methods and morning after pill

This research was aimed to examine knowledge and experience of students in Ege University towards family planning methods and morning after pills. The descriptive study was applied to students between 15.11.2006-01.04.2007 at Ege University Centrum Library in Bornova, Ýzmir by researchers.  The population of research was composed of 20587 students studied in Ege Univeristy at 2006-2007. The sample of research was determinated as 244 students by using population size. The data was collected with a survey form prepared by the researchers. The survey form composed of  65 questions based on literature. Statistical analyses were carried out using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software program 13.0 for data entry and analysis. Numerical, frequencies, indepented sample t test and varyans test were used for analysis. The mean age of 244 students interwieved  was 21.54±2.25 years. 68% students were in country for longest time. 37.7% students lived with friends. 27% students had girlfriend/boyfriend, 15.6% students  had used family planing method, 9.6% students had a pregnancy and 3.7 % students  had used morning after pill. Knowledge score mean of student towards family planning were 37.36±3.69, minimum score of students towards family planning was 30 and maximum score was 50.  Knowledge score mean of student towards morning after pill were 9.7±1.66, minimum score of students towards morning after pill was 7 and maximum score was 13.

Consequently, this study showed that knowledge level of students towards morning after pill were higher than knowledge level of students towards family planning. Students didn’t got adequate information about family planning and morning after pills. The information towards sexual health should have been to students during university life for knowledge deficient of them toward family planning and sexual health.
