The article presents the results of a research that investigated the social representations of teachers on the organization of the work in the school. The study evaluated the agreement about the teachers’ social representations front to the organization of the work in the school and the way they live the questions related to the phenomenon of the emotional exhaustion, beyond identifying the strategies of confrontation developed by these professionals living deeply such situations. In the methodological process it was used the Maslach questionnaire, the participant observation and the half-structuralized interviews. Teachers’ speeches were organized from the identification of the most relevant dimensions providing to develop an analysis of the social representations presented in their speeches. The results demonstrate that the participants had established relation between the meaning attributed to the organization of the work and the strategies of confrontation used. The school mainly meant a place that is good, but, also, problematic. The teachers emphasized the presence of the interaction, friendship and problems related to the structural and organizational conditions of the school. We recommend to the schools that stimulate alternative forms of humanization of the work, proposed by the teachers themselves, besides the search for improvement of the quality of the relations in the context of the work.
