Context : Yemenese infant mortality and mortality rate of children under 5 are among the higest in the Eastern Mediterranean and North African region. In Yemen , one out of eight children dies before reaching one year of age, and themajor childhood infectious diseases still kill about 2500 infants yearly. Objectives : A KAP ( Knowledge, Attitude, Practice) study was conducted with the principal objective of contributing to the study of the effectiveness of the Immmunization Programmme in Aden Governorate  , the knowledgr, attitude and practice related  to this problem and the socio economic factors influencing it.Design : A sample of 342 children under the age of two years was studied using both cluster and stratifed random sampling methods. A closed type questionnaire consisting of three main sctioons with 37 items was used and filled out bythe author during interviews with the mother of each selected child. Results : an overall evaluation of the effectiveness of the Immunization Programme in Aden Governorate was attempted. The results showed an overall coverage level of 66.7% recieving complete vaccination , 19.3 % recieving incomplete vaccination and 14% without any vaccinations. The main causes for incomplete vaccinations were considerations of parents that their child was ill(30.3%) followed by lack of availability of vaccines in MCH centers (27.3%) and clinics not wanting to open the multi-dose vaccine (13.6%). The main causes for parents not obtaining any vaccinations for their children were : no faith in immunization and rumors/beliefs . The educational level of the parents was found to be an influencing factor on immunization levels.                                                                            Best Regards,                                        Dr. Jameel A.A Saleh                              Community Medicine Department                           Faculty o Medicine and Health Sciences                                     Aden University (Yemen)                           e.mail Jameel5200@yahoo.com
