46.02 Cost-benefit analysis of treatment in specialized hospital for long treatment and rehabilitation

The mission of a specialized hospital for long treatment and rehabilitation is to contribute for higher living standard of patients and relatively for their relatives. The health institution offers specialized consultative and hospital medical services of high quality and effectiveness and provides timely access for all the needy.
Object of the study was the specialized hospital in the residential district Kremikovzi – Sofia. Authors have studied 200 persons entered in the hospital with diseases of the bone-muscular system and diseases of organs of blood circulation during a period of one year. They have analyzed the following indexes: age, sex, social status, basic and concomitant diagnosis, number of entrances in the hospital, number of days in hospital, laboratory tests, procedures, medicines and the treatment effects.
The average age of the inquired people was 61.97 years, 38.46% were men, 61.54% - women. For patients from the internal ward is characteristic multiple pathology. Their average age is 65.68 years, the average hospital stay is 15.2 days. Patients from the ward for physical and rehabilitation medicine are on the average of 58.45 years old, their average hospital stay is 12.65 days. The average total cost for the treatment of 1 patient is 177.42 Euro, laboratory tests – 6.03 Euro, procedures – 49.14 Euro, medicines: from the hospital – 0.47 Euro, personal – 42.26 Euro.
Authors report on 78% changes for the better among studied patients. After the hospital stay the sick persons restore their working capacity in measure according to their age; the elder can serve themselves, so their relatives can execute one’s occupation. The treatment in these hospitals is a suitable and effective form contributing to benefits for the individual and the whole society.

Learning Objectives: The purpose of the study was to make a cost-benefit analyses of treatment in specialized hospital, as well as assess the utilities for the patients, their relatives and the whole society.
