As the World Health Organization documents "environmental hazards are responsible for as much as a quarter of the total burden of disease world-wide, and more than one-third of the burden among children... Well-targeted interventions can prevent much of this environmental risk. Worldwide, as many as 13 million deaths could be prevented every year by making our environments healthier." Living conditions, access to goods and services, exposure to heavy metal, synthetic chemical continue to affect the life and work place of millions of people word wild. Ongoing experiences; strategic approaches to prevent environment hazards; fail on regulations and public policies; barriers, opportunities and advocacy on Health and Environment will presented and discussed in this session. Learning opportunities for participants: This session will focus on areas of environmental degradation, their effects on human health, and initiatives to reduce this toll. Moreover, considering the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development – Rio + 20 – the intent is also to produce, in this Public Health forum, opportunities to reflect and propose innovative strategies of actions at local, regional and international level, through ongoing experiences to face Environmental hazards
