Abstract
Foodborne illness is one of the public health problems. One of the ways to prevent it is food handlers personal hygiene. Therefore it was necessary to conduct research on the factors related with SFM personal hygiene.
From the research, it was known that 49.1% showed poor personal hygiene. Almost of the SFM were male (90,9%), 63.6 % had low education (junior high school graduate). 58,2 % SFM had adequate personal hygiene practice facilities. There were 41.8 % SFM had poor knowledge about personal hygiene, and 41.8 % SFM had unconstructive personal hygiene attitude. 100 % SFM said that there had not been any monitoring and supervision from the authority.
From the bivariate analysis, it was known that the attitude factor had the significant relation with the practice of personal hygiene. 65 % SFM who had unconstructive personal hygiene attitude had poor personal hygiene practice. The one who had unconstructive attitude had 3.125 times possibility to had poor practice compared with the one who had the constructive attitude. The researchers assumed that the SFM attitude also related with the promotion, monitoring and supervision of the local health official.
Based on the research, it is recommended to the local government to do personal hygiene promotion to the SFM, so they will understand that it is very important to prevent foodborne illness and maximize the food function to make people healthy. Besides that, it is very important to monitor and supervise the personal hygiene implementation of the public food merchants, including the SFM.
