Evaluation of pre-test & post-test knowledge Questionnaire after  HIV counseling & testing training of  urban health extension workers.

Introduction:

Public health interventions in urban settings are less than optimal, does not appear to be a major cause for concern and no simple solutions in addressing health priorities in urban areas, so Urban Health Extension worker (UHEW) program was developed building on the success of the rural health extension program. Health extension workers previously diploma trained in clinical nursing, after intensive training, Jun 15-September 20, 2011, received National HCT short term training for ten days.

Objective:

Evaluation of pre-test & post-test knowledge questionnaire after HCT training of UHEW.

 Methodology

A quasi experimental pre-test/post-test design was conducted, Oct.19-21, 2011 to evaluate the effect of training intervention on UHEW knowledge. Questionnaires were completed before and after training, presentation, kits hands on training were main tools during the trainings. Evaluation of Pre-test, post-test and skill was made. Post-test result was compared with the pre-test. Descriptive analysis; Paired t-tests were used for data analysis.

Results

All UHEW (n=72) were females and ranged from 22-28 years age, mean knowledge score of pre-test, post-test were 9.2 and 13.2. Correct response on question ‘What is the result of HIV using kits  shown in the diagram ranged ‘from 57% -- 94% in pre-test and post-test respectively. Significant improvement was seen in practical evaluation, following National test algorithm in 93% of them, which is statistically significant at (0.000).

 Recommendations:

Participants final report on HIV result, known HIV positive/negative samples from the laboratory using HIV kits was satisfactory, encourages scaling up health extension work at large for urban house hold level for increasing gate way to HIV prevention, care and treatment.

Learning Objectives: -The participants will recognizes & will adopt the role of urban health extensions point of care HIV diagnosis at house hold level at their home country from lessons learned from this. - The participants also prioritize the urban health extension work of providing access and equity for the community health care.
