Health Promotion of Elder Old People

Since 1961 Japan maintains comprehensive medical care insurance system for entire population. Insurance carriers and municipalities take the health promotion of the insured.  Rapid increase of the aged, Japanese government started new medical care insurance for over 75 years old. Each carrier of this system covers respective prefecture.

A large proportion of these carriers only calculates insurance premium. A few carriers begin health promotion of elder old people. A large part of the elder old people has problems in their health and it is difficult to change their behaviors. However the older they become, healthier they want to be. Wanting to become healthy and difficulty to change behaviors seems to be a contradiction. And also effects of health promotion are not appeared in elder old people as it should be in young people. To overcome this situation, vaccination of pneumococcus by small sum was performed. Pneumonia is the third or fourth cause of death in many prefectures and it was not so popular in Japan.This plan was successful. Many vaccinated aged thank to this plan and some of them begins to pay attention to their health. It seems to be important for health promotion of elder old people showing not only to become healthy but also to reduce causes of death. Also they want to know some relationship between health promotion and managing diseases.

 The elder ole people think it is too much trouble to go around for walk and so forth. To make them not to think it trouble is important. For this point, the carrier becomes to make some places for gathering the aged.

 Health promotion of elder old people become important in developed countries and Japan where the population of the aged is increasing rapidly should show the health promotion of the elder old people.
