The idea of placing a heath staff in a community to deliver close to client services started in a town in northern Ghana  in the early 90s with focus on family planning. The result was fascinating and led to the expansion of the idea to delivery of more and integrated services with the active involvement of community members. This showed  wonderful results and led to the adoption of CHPS as a national strategy. The policy frame work guiding the strategy is the focus of this presentation
