Regional and National Collaboration to Implement Social Determinants of Health in Indonesia: Strengthening the MOH to tackle NCDs and the Ageing problems

Social Determinant of Health (SDH) is defines as the structural determinants and the daily life condition responsible for a major part of health inequities between and within countries. Recently this concept becomes attention of many public health workers  world wide . In the condition where Indonesia is facing economic and ecological turbulence, it becomes a challenge for public health workers and academia  to facilitate movement in order to act on social determinant health.

Actions needed are measuring the problems, evaluating actions, expanding the knowledge base, developing a workplace trained in the SDH and focusing SDH in public health research such as NCD and aging problems . This presentation describes how public health experts in Indonesia through their professional association and network discussed the concept and linked to their discipline, in this case they concentrate on social epidemiology. They shared and discussed the issue to the public health colleagues such as government, MOH health workers and health researchers using popular health problems such as NCD and aging .The public health experts’ group such as academia, government workers and researchers linked and collaborated to the global network. It organizes and joins regional and national consultation meeting. Through this approach the SDH groups at national level is set up. It followed by research activities which in turn facilitate awareness among key policy makers that is used as a tool to facilitate health policy in all sectors for several public health problems.


Learning Objectives: This presentation also describes the partnership process at regional level that links to the national level and facilitate activities at national and local level. It identifies contributing and inhibiting factors at national and local level relate to policy and action to implement SDH approach in research, training and formulating policy, it makes use international agenda issues such as NCD and Health of Aging and challenge to make the process sustained.
