Sylvester Terhemen Uhaa Citizens United for the Rehabilitation Of Errants (CURE), Nigeria, Nigeria
An outline of the aims and approaches of CURE and an indication of the activities it pursues will show a width of approach to the problems of prisons and criminal justice systems into which considerations of health should be welcome. In protecting the rights of suspects and prisoners and advocating for prison reform and alternatives to imprisonment, the presentation will demonstrate that respect for human rights must be a basic assumption if societies are going to make better sense of dealing with crime and justice in the 21st century than ever before. No country can afford to have an ‘undeserving’ group who are left outside the basic rights which are so well established as the best way for a civilised society to approach its problems and plan for a better future.
