ABSTRACT

 

COMPARITIVE  STUDY BETWEEN

WHO JOINED GOVT’S LOW COST HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME AND WHO DIDN’T

 

BACKGROUND;-RSBY [RASHTRIYA SWASTHYA BHIMA YOJNA] – WAS IMPLEMENTED BY THE GOVT. OF INDIA. HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR HOSPITALISATION FOR VARIOUS DISEASES FOR A NOMINAL PAY OF RS.30/- WITH A COVERAGE OF RS.30000/-PER YEAR.COVERAGE EXTENDS TO FIVE MEMBERS OF A FAMILY.   

                                              

OBJECTIVES;-1.TO STUDY THE BENEFITS FOR THE CERTIFIED BPL (BELOW POVERTY LINE)FAMILIES WHO JOINED THE INSURANCE SCHEME.2.TO COMPARE THE EXPENSES WITH OTHER BPL CARDHOLDERS WHO DIDN’T JOIN THE RSBY SCHEME.3.REASONS WHY OTHERS DIDN'T JOIN.

MATERIALS AND METHODS;A STUDY WAS CONDUCTED BY DIRECT PERSONNEL INTERVIEW AMONG BPL CARD HOLDERS WHO POSSESS THE RSBY  CARD[100 PERSONS] AND WHO DIDNOT POSSESS THE INSURANCE CARD[100 PERSONS]IN VETTOOR PANCHAYATH,TRIVANDRUM DIST., KERALA, INDIA.

RESULTS;-  INSURED AND UNINSURED DIFFERENCE PER DAY = RS. 200/-.(EXPENDICTURE  INCURED DURING HOSPITALISATION)

UNINSURED =  300 RS/- PER DAY x 6 (DAYS) = 1800 RS/-

INSURED = 100 RS/- PER DAY x 2 (DAYS ) = 200 RS/-

DIFFERENCE PER CASE = 1800 – 200 = 1600 RS/-

MAN – DAYS LOST

UNINSURED = 6 DAYS

INSURED = 2 DAYS

REASONS FOR NOT JOINING THE SCHEME AND NOT USING THE CARD EVEN WHEN THEY HAD IT ARE ANALYSED.IMPORTANT REASONS FOR NOT JOINING AND NOT USING INCLUDED IGNORANCE, INABILITY TO ATTEND THE PHOTO SESSION FOR PREPARING THE CARD.

CONCLUSION;. THOSE WHO JOINED INSURANCE COULD SAVE RS.200/- PER DAY.THE INSURED  WERE HOSPITALISED ONLY FOR TWO DAYS FOR COMPLETE CURE AS IN PATIENTS AS THEY WENT TO HOSPITAL EARLY WHERE AS LATTER SPEND AROUND 6 DAYS AS THEY WENT LATE AND SPEND MORE MONEY.AN EXTENSIVE HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMME SHOULD BE LAUNCHED.MORE DAYS SHOULD BE ALLOWED FOR ISSUING CARD.THE  TOTAL AMOUNT AND PER DAY ALLOWANCE SHOULD BE INCREASED ON RECOMMENDATION OF THE CONCERNED DOCTOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SEVERITY OF DISEASE / ACCIDENT.
